Life as a mathematician comes with many challenges beyond the mathematical ones. With gender gaps and issues of equality still present in our field, our EDI session at GABY invites everyone to take time to reflect, discuss, and work toward a more inclusive mathematical community.
For that matter we invited the Women in Mathematics group from Regensburg to give a talk and lead a discussion afterwards.
Below you find a description of the WiM and the contents of the session.
The schedule of the EDI session will be announced together with the general schedule of the conference
It is possible to participate at the EDI session without participating at the GABY conference. More information will follow.
In the traditionally men-dominated field of mathematics, initiatives to support and empower women are becoming increasingly important. One such initiative is Women in Mathematics at the University of Regensburg (WiM Regensburg), a group dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for women mathematicians.
In the first part we will present some research that we made in 2025 through a survey about diversity and inclusivity in mathematics (e.g. about gender quotas effects, lack of role models, period effects), providing also quotas from interview participants.
Then we will use these as a starting point for discussion among participants.
